Our Focus on Raising Well-Tempered, Intelligent Dogs
At Firefly Aussies and Aussiedoodles, we are dedicated to producing loving, intelligent dogs that excel as family companions, ranch partners, or therapy animals.
A Look Into Our Breeding Program
Julie has always had a deep love for animals—especially dogs and horses. Her passion for Australian Shepherds began when she adopted Colt as a four-month-old puppy. From the start, Colt showed an incredible level of connection and intuition, often anticipating Julie’s movements and eagerly wanting to help. His strong desire to please made him highly trainable for ranch work.
As a therapist, Julie quickly noticed that many of her clients were drawn to Colt and seemed to feel calmer and more regulated when interacting with him. Seeing the positive impact he had inspired Julie to begin a small breeding program focused on raising Australian Shepherds as both beloved pets and potential therapeutic partners.
Bryar and Willow became the first two females in the program, coming from Tennessee and Washington. While searching for the right genetic match for Willow, Julie decided to breed her with a Poodle, which introduced the Aussiedoodle side of the program. What Julie originally thought would be a one-time litter quickly grew into an important part of the program due to the strong demand for well-bred Aussiedoodles.
Julie carefully selects her breeding dogs based on temperament, drive, shedding, genetic health, and physical structure. Her goal is to raise dogs that are not only beautiful and well-built, but also emotionally balanced, trainable, and deeply connected to their people.

Choosing Between an Aussie
and an Aussiedoodle
Julie often recommends Australian Shepherds for ranch and working environments because of their strong desire to please, intelligence, and trainability. Their double coat is also well suited for outdoor life, allowing mud and dirt to dry and naturally fall away.
Aussiedoodles, on the other hand, tend to be slightly calmer and are often a wonderful fit for non-ranch families. They are highly connected, intelligent, and eager to learn. While they typically require more grooming than Australian Shepherds to maintain their coats, they are often lower shedding or nearly non-shedding, which many families appreciate.
